  My fiance and I chose the 8 course Winter 2018 menu with wine pairings. We're fans of Top Chef and we figured it was a no-brainer to go to Spiaggia to celebrate my 30th birthday. I love tasting menus because it's an opportunity for the chef to show me what he's got. Chef Joe seems like a great guy and a great chef but we were not impressed.
  
  The service and plating were excellent. All the food looked so beautiful but sadly, was lacking in flavor. I will say I did enjoy the salad, the risotto, and the rabbit course. Everything else was just okay. This is going to sound harsh, but the beet pasta course was so flavorless that it reminded me of a frozen meal from Trader Joe's. And a cheese course? Come on... what a cop out.
  
  We were also disappointed in the wine pairings. We didn't experience a burst of flavor with the food as we have at other restaurants with a sommelier. Also, the wine pours were very conservative. I understand that but at the same time for the price, I don't think it was worth it at all. At Alinea, the sommelier never seemed rushed and would pour more wine if we were still eating the course that it was paired with. I'm comparing the two because I think the price for the wine pairings was similar.
  
  Another thing that was off, was the timing. We waited a lot of time between courses. Overall, we were at the restaurant for a whopping 3.5 hours. We live an hour away so that a total of 5.5 hours to not be blown away by such an expensive meal. We did not leave hungry but I did have a bowl of cinnamon toast crunch when I got home. That right there, says a lot.
  
  I'm just going to go ahead and say the price of this meal. It was over $657 dollars. In my opinion I feel like we completely wasted our money. The price is a big reason I was so disappointed but honestly I still would not have been happy if the meal would have cost $200.
  
  The last thing that put me over the top was that I left a note at the time of making the reservation that we were celebrating a 30th birthday. I'm not crazy about birthdays but this is a pretty big one. We got our dessert with no mention at all. I feel petty saying anything but I saw 3 tables get a dessert with candles. I have never written such a long review but I have never been more disappointed with a meal.
