  As always, submitting a visa application is very stressful because your passport is taken from you. I went to the consulate in Chicago yesterday. The process was definitely a little confusing, but we got everything in and Mariana was very helpful to tell me what was needed.
  
  Here are a few tips for online:
  1. Get the e-visa if you are only going to Brazil short term and have a US passport
  2. Fill out full visa application for long term visa. On the top right, you can change the form to English.
  3. At the end of the form, you will have to attach your passport photo (very recent photo), a digital picture of your signature, your arrival/departure flights (with confirmation numbers), photo of the information page on the passport, and drivers license. (We also added hotel itinerary). You will need to add 3 recent bank statements if you're staying more than 30 days.
  
  Here are a few tips when you get to consulate:
  1. Print out the receipt from the online form, write in your signature and paste a 2" by 2" photo on the photo area.
  2. Take your passport and flight itineraries
  3. 3 recent bank statements (if staying more than 30 days)
  4. USPS money order of $160
  5. It will take 10 days to process and if there is any error you can come back and reapply, and that will only take 3 days. You can also check the status of your visa online and pick up when it's ready.
